Hanwha’s “Parenting Support Grant,” which provides KRW 10 million (post-tax) per childbirth to support employees in balancing work and family life, has now been awarded to over 100 households.

Introduced just six months ago, the initiative is being hailed as a major success, significantly improving childcare environments for employees and boosting workplace efficiency.

□ Total of 114 households supported… “It eased financial and emotional burdens”

The Parenting Support Grant program, introduced earlier this year by several Hanwha Group affiliates, is currently being implemented across 14 subsidiaries in the Distribution, Service and Machinery divisions.

As of this month, a total of 114 households have received the benefit. The program provides KRW 10 million per childbirth regardless of birth order, with additional amounts granted for multiple births such as twins.

Recently acquired affiliate Ourhome quickly adopted the program following its integration into Hanwha Group. During Ourhome’s Vision Proclamation Ceremony in May, Dongseon Kim, EVP of Future Strategy at Ourhome, pledged to implement the grant, stating:

“We want to share our philosophy of valuing our employees’ lives and families.”

The “100th beneficiary family” of the Parenting Support Grant came from Ourhome. Won Sora, who recently gave birth to her second child, received the grant shortly after joining Hanwha.

“This isn’t just a financial perk—it truly felt like the company was there with me during one of the most important moments of my life,” Won said. “It helped not only financially but also eased the psychological burden that comes with a new child.”

□ 86% of recipients: “The grant encouraged us to consider having more children”

Although still in its early stages, the Parenting Support Grant is already showing strong positive impacts at work and at home.

In a recent survey of grant recipients:

96% said the grant provided “practical support in balancing work and family life.”

86% responded that it “positively influenced their consideration of having more children.”

The findings highlight the potential of such corporate programs to not only reduce childcare burdens and improve productivity but also contribute to tackling broader social challenges such as declining birth rates. In fact, 95% of respondents agreed that the grant “contributes to national efforts to improve work-life balance and raise birth rates.”

According to Statistics Korea, 20,309 babies were born in May, up 3.8% (742 births) year-over-year. Births have been increasing each month from January to May this year compared to the same period last year.

As of this month, 37 employees from Hanwha’s Machinery division have benefited from the grant. By affiliate : ▲ Hanwha Semitec: 16 employees ▲ Hanwha Vision: 9 employees ▲ Hanwha Momentum: 8 employees ▲ Hanwha Robotics: 2 employees ▲ Vision Next: 2 employees

Notably, Kang Nam-kyung of Hanwha Vision, who gave birth to twins in April, received KRW 20 million in one payment.

Most recipients used the grant for childcare expenses, including : ▲ Baby product purchases (31%) ▲ Living expenses (23%) ▲ Postnatal care (24%) ▲ Medical check-ups (13%)

The Parenting Support Grant originated from direct feedback collected during employee engagement sessions, reflecting concerns from employees struggling to manage childcare alongside work. Initially introduced in January within the Distribution and Service divisions, it was expanded to the Machinery division just two months later after demonstrating early success in improving efficiency and reducing childcare burdens.

Hanwha’s Machinery, Distribution and Service divisions plan to continue developing various “employee support initiatives” alongside the Parenting Support Grant.

A representative from Hanwha Robotics stated:

“As employees’ quality of life improves through better childcare support, we see a virtuous cycle of greater efficiency and performance. We will continue to pursue diverse initiatives that not only benefit our employees but also contribute to broader social development.”
